ELK GROVE, Calif. (AP) – A Sacramento County tribe has reached a tentative agreement with the city of Elk Grove to build a major casino resort on Highway 99.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the Elk Grove City Council is set to vote on the agreement with the Wilton Rancheria tribe on Wednesday. The agreement would have the tribe pay Elk Grove $132 million over 20 years to offset the impacts of the tribe’s planned $400 million casino development.

The agreement would move the tribe’s plans for a 12-story, 302-room hotel, a convention center and entertainment facility forward. The casino would also feature restaurants, bars and a major gambling floor.

The planned casino has sparked controversy in the community of Elk Grove, with residents debating whether the economic impact outweighs the planned gambling.
