SAN BERNADINO, Calif. – Loma Linda University Health recently broke ground on a new project that is expected to bring renewed hope and opportunity to the City of San Bernardino, a community where nearly half its residents receive public aid and a quarter live below the poverty level.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians announced a $10 million gift for construction of Loma Linda University Health - San Bernardino Campus, which will house San Manuel Gateway College.

The 156,000-square-foot campus in Downtown San Bernardino will offer a variety of short-term, quick-employability educational and healthcare programs to help spur economic development in the City and region.

With the healthcare sector slated to grow by 14 percent by 2016 (adding an estimated 16,600 jobs in the Inland Empire), the college will offer entry-level medical course opportunities to members of the public and San Bernardino City Unified School District high school students and graduates. The campus will also house clinical facilities that will offer services to enrollees of the Covered California insurance program.
