BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) – The Early Head Start and Head Start programs on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation are getting a $2.9 million boost in funding from the U.S. government.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says the money will be available over five years as the tribe works to improve its governance, health and safety of its children, and provide early education services to improve school readiness for Native American children.

The funding will be distributed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Head Start.
