BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota State University is hosting the American Indian History and Cultures Conference this week in Brookings.

The theme of the 18th annual event Thursday through Saturday is storytelling, described as an integral part of tribal culture.

The keynote speaker will be Susan Power, a Dakota woman born in Chicago who now teaches at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. Power is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe of North Dakota and South Dakota.
