DURANT, Okla. (AP) — The Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations are working to transfer operations of a Durant health clinic from one tribe to another.

The Choctaw Nation currently owns the building, but the Chickasaw Nation staffs the clinic. Starting Oct. 1, the clinic will be entirely managed by the Choctaw Nation.

Chickasaw Nation Gov. Bill Anoatubby and Choctaw Nation Chief Gary Batton signed a memorandum in a ceremony earlier this month agreeing to the transition.

The tribes partnered in 1996 to provide health care to Native Americans.

Teresa Jackson with the division of health for the Choctaw Nation said patients should see little difference in the clinic’s operation. She said the only immediate change will be that the seal of the Choctaw Nation will be placed on the door.
