Jack Brown Center receives three-year national accreditation

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Cherokee Nation’s Jack Brown Center has received another three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

The Tucson-based organization made its assessment in September based on a set of standards developed by rehabilitation service providers, consumers and industry experts. Standards considered were rehabilitation for a disability, treatment for addiction and substance abuse, and home and community services.

“It’s nice to see our hard work recognized for meeting the high standards of such a reputable national organization,” said Jack Brown Center Director Darren Dry. “The center is committed to restoring Native teens to healthy individuals and productive members of their families and communities. This accreditation is a result of those efforts.”

The report showed that Jack Brown Center staff held high standards in all areas and worked to continuously improve the high quality residential health services provided to adolescents from across the country.

The Jack Brown Center is a 13-week residential recovery program for Native American youth battling substance abuse. They provide opportunities for education and mental, spiritual, emotional and physical growth through treatment.

Construction began recently on a new $4.3 million, 25,000-square-foot facility located on the Male Seminary Recreation Center campus off Fourth Street in Tahlequah. The current Jack Brown Center is located on the Sequoyah Schools campus. The expansion will increase the number of youth served from 20 to 36. It will include equine therapy and a ropes course. An estimated nine permanent jobs will be added. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2014.
