SEATTLE (AP) – The former treasurer of the Seattle Indian Services Commission has been sentenced to two months in jail after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $14,000 from the organization.

The Seattle Times reports Cindy Pederson was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail, but the judge said that time could be converted to 30 days on house arrest and 240 hours of community service.

According to court records, Pederson said she had a gambling problem and used the stolen funds for personal use. Pederson has paid back the money to the commission, along with another $10,000 she allegedly stole from another foundation for the Haida tribe.

The Seattle Indian Services Commission is charged with coordinating services to the city’s American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Pederson became treasurer in July 2014.
