OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The former head of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma’s child care program in Anadarko has been sentenced to one year in federal prison for embezzling from the program’s funds.

Federal prosecutors say 47-year-old Doris Jean Archilta was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Oklahoma City.

Archilta pleaded guilty in August to embezzling money by issuing paychecks to multiple “ghost” employees and then cashing the checks for personal use.

Archilta also was ordered to serve three years supervised release after her sentence and pay the Anadarko-based tribe $58,000 in restitution.

A telephone message left Tuesday with Archilta’s federal public defender was not immediately returned.
