PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A former finance officer accused of embezzling from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's Housing Authority has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to repay nearly $20,000.
Fifty-five-year-old Ladarana Mees of Bismarck, N.D., pleaded guilty in July in South Dakota to theft or bribery involving programs receiving federal funds.
He will be on supervised release for three years following his prison term.
The Standing Rock Reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
