PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – The ousted chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux tribe in South Dakota is questioning the legitimacy of last week's election.

Chairman Brandon Sazue Sr. was defeated by former chairman Duane Big Eagle Sr. by 11 votes.

Sazue unsuccessfully tried to appeal the results to the tribal election board, alleging vote-buying and other violations. He says he now hopes to get the support of the necessary 20 percent of eligible voters to call for a new election.

Big Eagle, who served as tribal chairman for nearly two decades and lost to Sazue in the 2008 election, says the accusations are unfounded and it's time to accept the election results and move on.
