BELCOURT, N.D. (AP) – The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is holding its primary election.

The Minot Daily News reports that five people are running for tribal chairman, including incumbent Richard McCloud. The top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary move on to the general election in two weeks.

Tribal members also are voting on Tribal Council races. There are 44 candidates running for a total of eight seats. The top three vote-getters in each of four districts move on to the Nov. 4 election. Each district has two seats on the council.
