ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – More than $6 million in federal Housing and Urban Development money is going to eight American Indian tribes in New York.

The Indian Housing Block Grants are distributed each year to tribes for affordable housing activities. Nationwide, HUD announced a total of more than $651 million to 636 Native American tribes in 34 states.

The Seneca Nation is getting $2.5 million and the St. Regis Mohawks are getting $2 million. The Oneida Nation is getting 801,000, the Cayuga Nation $373,000, and the Shinnecock Indian Tribe about $221,000.

The Onondaga Nation, Tonawanda Band of Seneca Indians, and Tuscarora Nation are getting $50,282 each.
