TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —The filing period to run for Cherokee Nation Principal Chief, Deputy Chief and eight Tribal Council seats ended this week, drawing 36 candidates.

The Cherokee Nation’s general election is June 27. To vote, Cherokee Nation citizens must be registered by March 31. Absentee ballot requests must be submitted by May 8. If a candidate in any office does not receive 50 percent plus one, that race will proceed to a run-off election. If necessary, a run-off election will be held July 25.
