TULSA, Okla. (AP) – The Cherokee Nation has begun issuing its 2016 Oklahoma Tribal Compact Hunting and Fishing Licenses.

The Tulsa World reports the Oklahoma-based tribe mailed 90,000 permits during the last week of 2015 to tribal citizens who had confirmed their addresses before Oct. 31.

Another 60,000 licenses will also be mailed, many with address confirmations sent in after Oct. 31.

The Cherokee Nation Tax Commission issues the licenses. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin signed a three-year compact in May that provides free hunting and fishing licenses to Cherokee Nation citizens.

Every Cherokee citizen aged 17 and older who does not already have a lifetime license will receive the free annual license, which includes an antlered deer gun season tag and a spring turkey tag.
