PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Brandon Sazue has been elected chairman of South Dakota’s Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.

Tribal citizens held their general election on Thursday.

KCCR-AM reports Sazue received 503 votes; Joseph Shields received 449.

Sazue was chairman from 2008-2010, and again from 2012-2014. He says the No. 1 issue on the Crow Creek Reservation is preventing suicide.

Sazue says other top issues are the methamphetamine epidemic and the lack of tribal police on the reservation.

Current tribal chairwoman Roxanne Sazue did not seek re-election.
