MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) – Federal prosecutors have moved to revoke the bail of a former Mashantucket Pequot tribal official convicted of fraud, after learning the tribe has banished him.

Christopher Pearson, the tribe’s former deputy chief operating officer, was convicted by a federal jury in Hartford in November of defrauding investors in a Honduran island resort out of $280,000.

The tribe, which runs Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, banished Pearson last month.

Pearson has been free on $300,000 bail after telling a judge he wasn’t a flight risk because of his ties to the tribe.

Federal prosecutors filed a motion last week seeking to have Pearson detained until his Feb. 5 sentencing. Pearson’s lawyers are fighting the request.

A bail hearing hasn’t been scheduled.
