Labor funds awarded to 6 New Mexico tribes

MESCALERO, N.M. (AP) – More than $350,000 has been awarded to six New Mexico Indian tribes to support job training and placement services.
The funding was allocated by the U.S. Department of Labor. It is aimed at helping the Pueblos of Acoma, Isleta, Laguna, and Zuni, as well as the Mescalero Apache tribe and the Navajo Nation's chapters at Alamo and Ramah.
Rep. Harry Teague, D-N.M., says it's critical to combat unemployment in Native American communities to continue tribal economic development efforts.
Most of the funding is designated for employment and training services for adults, but some will go toward summer and year-round youth programs.
