IGNANCIO, Colo. (AP) – Two executive officers of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe have resigned and the Tribal Council has reportedly asked for the tribe's chairman to resign.

The Durango Herald reports that Andrew Frost stepped down last week and that Johnny Valdez followed on Feb.9.

More than 50 tribal members and one tribal council member gathered Feb.9 night to discuss the turmoil amid claims of mismanagement of tribal government and business affairs. A spokesperson for the tribal member at the meeting said the council requested the resignation of chairman Matthew Box on Feb. 7.

Officials in the executive and tribal information offices declined the newspaper's requests for comment. A telephone message left Feb.10 for Box through an assistant wasn't immediately returned.

An effort to recall Box failed in December because not enough people voted.
