ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) – Rosebud Sioux President Rodney Bordeaux is defending his administration against a recall petition being circulated by a group that accuses him of mismanaging tribal affairs.

Among the allegations are that tribal money was not spent properly and that the tribe's chief prosecutor is not qualified.

Bordeaux tells the Rapid City Journal that every government has its detractors, and that the recall effort is spearheaded by former tribal leaders and political candidates. But he says he takes the allegations seriously and will issue a response.

Tribal member Larry Wright says the Bordeaux administration is “playing games” with the recall process by not releasing a proper list of tribal voters needed by those gathering petition signatures.

Bordeaux was re-elected to his third two-year term as tribal president in 2009.
