EVERETT, Wash. (AP) – The Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office is getting some help from the Stillaguamish Tribe.

The Herald newspaper reports that the tribe agreed to donate $86,000 so that Prosecutor Mark Roe wouldn't have to cut another deputy prosecutor handling misdemeanor cases such as domestic violence and drunken driving.

Prosecutors handle about 10,000 cases a year in Snohomish County District Court. Two years ago, the office had a dozen deputy prosecutors assigned to those cases. Due to budget cuts, that number is down to eight.

Roe decided to ask the tribe for help rather than cut another position. Tribal leaders say that as neighbors, they too have a strong interest in DUI enforcement and domestic violence prosecutions.
