WETUMKA, Okla. – On a bright and windy morning, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation officially opened their Southern Regional Offices in Wetumka with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 29.

Before the ribbon cutting took place, comments were heard from tribal officials, dignitaries, and Muscogee citizens before an overflowing audience that all stood in the Southern Region’s parking lot.

Some of the speakers included National Congress of the American Indian President Jefferson Keel, Creek Nation Director of Health Ed McLemore, National Council Representative Thomas Yahola as well as Principal Chief A.D. Ellis who praised former Creek Chiefs such as R. Perry Beaver, who was in attendance, for his vision. Ellis said that Beaver had always felt that such a service should be provided and agreed with Ellis when a center was created to help Creek Citizens that reside in the southern tribal boundaries that may not always have the convenience of obtaining services by traveling north to the tribal capitol complex located in Okmulgee.

The center will include services at specific times throughout the week, as representatives from the main offices in Okmulgee will be available in Wetumka. These offices include: Election Board, Behavioral Health, Reintegration, Youth Wellness, Citizenship, Social Services, TANF, National Council, Child Support, WIC, Office of Child Care, Head Start Program, Food Distribution, Wetumka Indian Health Center, Housing, Lighthorse, and Tax Commission.
