Tex Hall says authority over the land needs to be returned to the tribal government.

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) – The chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes has asked Congress to help the North Dakota tribe prevent its land and resources from being treated as public property.

Tribal Chairman Tex Hall says authority over the land needs to be returned to the tribal government.

The Minot Daily News reports that Hall recently told the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs that federal laws and policies continue to interfere with the tribe’s ability to use its resources.

Hall says the committee should propose legislation that would allow the tribe to adapt to environmental changes and manage its own resources.
