AUBURN, Wash. (AP) – The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe has acquired more than 150 square miles of forest land in King, Pierce and Lewis counties.

The Auburn-based tribe acquired the land for about $313 million from the Boston investment manager Hancock Natural Resource Group.

Tribal Council Chairwoman Virginia Cross says the tribe is reacquiring homeland and diversifying its economy. The land will be managed for a sustainable timber harvest.

The Seattle Times reports most of the land is along Highway 410 between Enumclaw and Greenwater.
