KESHENA, Wis. (AP) – The Menominee Indian Tribe has a new leader.

The tribe’s legislature has elected Laurie Boivin, who also served as the Menominee’s chairwoman in 2010. Boivin defeated Craig Corn, who has led the tribe for the past two years.

Boivin was elected to the legislature in January. She served on the legislature before from 2003 to 2012 and stepped down after serving her third consecutive term, which was mandated by the tribe’s constitution.

Boivin says the Menominee’s proposed casino near Kenosha has her full support. WLUK-TV reports that Boivin says it’s a pivotal time in the tribe’s history.

She will give the State of the Tribes address in Madison Thursday.
