BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The judicial board of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota wants to oust two judges and a clerk from office.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the board overseen the tribe’s judicial branch plans to hold impeachment hearings for Chief Judge Madonna Marcellais, Judge Andrew Laverdure and Clerk of Court Jolene House.

An attorney hired by the board to review a series of complaints against the tribe’s judicial system concluded that the judges and court system showed lack of competence, diligence and professional ethics.

The attorney detailed in a 45-page report that some cases went on too long, were handled improperly and had judges overseeing them without the qualifications required under the tribal constitution.

The newspaper reports Marcellais, Laverdure and House on Tuesday were unavailable to comment.
