Nationally known chef cooking for members of Kansas tribes in partnership with AARP Kansas and the Association of American Indian Physicians

MAYETTA, Kans. – AARP Kansas and the Association of American Indian Physicians have joined together to sponsor the 2nd annual “Intertribal Solutions, A Recipe for Better Health,” to help members of the Native American community in Kansas learn about healthy cooking options—especially those that benefit people with diabetes.  The event features famed chef and author Richard Hetzler who is the head chef at the Mitsitam Café located at the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

Hetzler will present two programs while sharing with local cooks how to prepare a meal that is diabetic friendly using traditional Native American foods.  The event is hosted by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribe with members from the Prairie Band, Kickapoo, Sac and Fox, and Iowa Tribes of Kansas participating in the cooking and serving of the gourmet meal.

The event takes place on Thursday, November 15 and Friday November 16, 2012 with each presentation beginning at 1:00 pm.  Both presentations will take place at the Prairie Band Casino and Resort at 12305 150th Road in Mayetta, Kansas.
