OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) — Principal Chief George Tiger of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation — who was the subject of an impeachment petition drive — has officially announced for re-election to a second term.

Tiger said in a news release Monday that the tribe has begun building a new hospital, a new clinic and is the first tribe to own and operate its on dialysis center while also expanding its gaming operations and other businesses.

A petition to impeach Tiger was circulated starting in March after it was revealed he signed a contract in 2009 with a developer of a Broken Arrow casino project that would have competed with the Creek Nation’s Tulsa casino, but it fell short of the signatures needed.

Tiger said he did nothing wrong because he signed the contract before he became chief.
