Swinomish Indian Reservation – On Sunday, March 6th, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community held general elections for the Swinomish Indian Senate. Results are as follows:
 
·       Position 2: Brian Porter - unopposed
·       Position 4: Kevin Paul - 214 votes
·       Melissa Edwards – 87 votes
·       Position 5: Joe Williams – 186 votes
·       Tandy Wilbur – 135 votes
 
The Senate also elected executive officers, retaining the incumbents as follows:
·       Brian Cladoosby, Chairman
·       Brian Porter, Vice-Chairman
·       Sophie Bailey, Secretary
·       Barbara James, Treasurer
 
The Swinomish Indian Senate consists of eleven members who serve five year terms. Joe Williams will be the 31st Swinomish Senator. Brian Cladoosby is now serving his 20th year as Chairman.
 
The 900 citizen Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is federally recognized and operates under Constitution and Bylaws adopted in 1936 pursuit to the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.
 
Swinomish is a signatory to the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott and is the legal successor in interest to the Samish, Kikialus, Lower Skagit and Swinomish aboriginal bands. Its 10,000 acre reservation is located 65 miles North of Seattle, Washington on Fidalgo Island and includes approximately 3000 acres of tidelands. Swinomish is among the largest employers in Skagit County, Washington.
