ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians has removed tribal Chairwoman Sue Shaffer from her position as a paid consultant to the tribe.
The tribe is not saying why the move was made, but tribal CEO Michael Rondeau told The News-Review newspaper that the move will not affect Shaffer's working relationship with him.
Shaffer was a key figure in restoring federal recognition of the Cow Creek Band in 1982. She has long been the public face of the tribe, which owns the Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort in Canyonville and other businesses.
Rondeau says he will assume the public role along with members of the tribal board and other administrators.
