KAIBETO, Ariz. (AP) – The Navajo Nation's Kaibeto (KAI'-bih-toe) Chapter will host the first of four public meetings on the reservation dedicated to veterans.

The town hall-style meetings will take place over two weeks. They're part of Navajo President Ben Shelly's effort to engage the public in the workings of his administration.

Shelly held a series of public meetings last month, one of which was focused on economic development.

Navajo veterans have expressed concern in the past over tribal housing, transportation for doctors' appointments and basic needs, such as electricity and water.

Tuesday marks the first of the veterans' town hall meetings. Others will follow in Oak Springs and Dennehotso (Deh-neh-HOAT'-so) in Arizona. The last is scheduled May 26 in Crownpoint, N.M.
